    Machine Direction Orientation features a vertical structure incorporating preheating rollers, stretching rollers, annealing rollers, and cooling rollers. It enables continuous heating, longitudinal stretching, annealing and setting, and cooling of plastic film, thereby producing high-performance longitudinal stretched film products.

Primary Components

Unwinding and Feeding Unit:

  • Provides stable base film (from cast or extrusion lines).
  • Typically includes tension control, edge guiding, and splice detection devices.

Preheating Unit:

  • Composed of multiple heating rolls (typically oil-heated or electrically heated).
  • Heats the film uniformly and stably to the optimal stretching temperature range (e.g., for BOPP, BOPET, etc., typically above the glass transition temperature and below the melting point).

Stretching Unit:

  • The core section. Comprises multiple sets of precision-driven rollers, typically divided into slow-speed and fast-speed groups.
  • Stretching is achieved by precisely controlling the linear speed ratio between the two groups (stretch ratio, e.g., 1:4, 1:5). A greater speed differential yields a higher stretch ratio and increased molecular orientation.
  • Roller surfaces require high polishing and precise temperature control, sometimes employing special coatings (e.g., ceramic) to prevent film adhesion.

Annealing/Heat Setting Unit:

  • Following stretching, the film undergoes appropriate reheating (typically below stretching temperature but above room temperature) to relieve internal stress, stabilize molecular structure, reduce shrinkage, and enhance dimensional stability.

Cooling Unit:

  • Cooling rolls rapidly reduce the film temperature to near room temperature, "freezing" the stretched morphology into place.

Winding Unit:

  • The processed film is wound into rolls, requiring high-precision tension control and a smooth winding profile to prevent wrinkles or stretching.
