 A brief introduction to biaxial stretching technology

 

The basic principle is: after the polymer raw material is heated and melted through an extruder to be extruded into a thick sheet, it is stretched longitudinally and transversely by a certain multiple under the action of external force in the appropriate temperature range above the glass transition temperature and below the melting point (in a high elastic state) through a longitudinal stretching machine and a transverse stretching machine, so that the molecular chains or crystal planes are oriented and arranged in an orderly manner in a direction parallel to the film plane, and then heat-set under tension to fix the oriented macromolecular structure, and then treated with a polymer conductive liquid/permanent antistatic agent coating, and finally cooled and subsequently treated to obtain a permanent antistatic transparent film.

 

Plastic films suitable for biaxial stretching mainly include polyester, polypropylene, polyamide, polystyrene and polyamide films. Stretching makes the polymer chains in the polymer align and orient along the direction of the force, so as to adjust and improve the aggregate structure of the polymer and obtain the various physical and chemical properties we expect. Stretching can be divided into uniaxial stretching and biaxial stretching. The former makes the chains align and orient along one direction.

 

Biaxially oriented films exhibit superior mechanical and physical properties including enhanced tensile strength, dimensional stability, and optical clarity. These materials demonstrate excellent thermal stability across wide temperature ranges, superior dielectric characteristics, and exceptional barrier performance. With FDA-compliant non-toxic composition, they are ideal for food contact applications and premium product packaging. Industrial applications span electronics manufacturing (particularly in capacitor films and flexible circuits), imaging materials, adhesive substrates, and precision optical components.

 

The common characteristics of biaxially stretched films are high tensile strength, good stiffness, high transparency, good high and low temperature resistance, good insulation performance, high barrier properties, non-toxic and tasteless. It is very suitable for the packaging of food and high-end goods. It is also widely used in electronic industrial products, photosensitive films, tape substrates, especially optical films, etc. It is a material with excellent performance.
